We are down at the coastal Southside town of Dun Laoghaire, to see what the town has to offer pubs and pints wise. What are the best pubs in Dun Laoghaire? Best pint of Guinness in Dun Laoghaire or maybe who has the best beer garden for those sunny Summer days.

We are going to take a virtual stroll around the town and give you a little lowdown on each spot and give you our picks for the best pubs and pints in Dun Laoghaire at the end. It’s just our opinion based on a mini tour or three of the town. We aren’t experts and know there’s always a chance of the odd ropey pint, so we will not be hammering any pub. We are here to celebrate these beautiful establishments.

Right enough waffle. We are going to pass People Park and start at Georges Street Upper. First up is Walters. It’s a restaurant/bar of culture, art and music. Walters Dun Laoghaire puts on regular DJ nights and live music every week including their popular jazz night on a Sunday. It also functions as an art gallery, with a lot of the art on their walls available to purchase. Its a really nice looking modern bar. There was Islands Edge and Guinness drank on each of our visits and both were enjoyed. They also do a cracking Guinness stew! You can check out our full post on Walters here

A short hop up the street from here and we land at McLoughlins. A nice comfy spot with plenty of screens for live sport. Over the course of our visits to the town, the pint of Guinness I had here was up there as a contender for the best. You can view our full write-up on McLoughlin’s here

You can check out a couple of pics below. McLoughlins is definitely in with a shout for best Guinness in Dun Laoghaire. Read on to see our list of best pubs and pints.

To reach our next destinations we have a slightly longer stroll up Georges Street past the corner shop. We reach a laneway that takes you down to Hardys’s Bar (Part of The Royal Marine Hotel) The bar is named after Hardy from Laurel & Hardy. The lads stayed in the Royal Marine Hotel (where the bar is located) for a good stretch back in the day.

The views from the front of the hotel are fairly sensational. This is a lovely bar dishing up nice grub. They have a bar menu and a restaurant. With the restaurant, you should book in advance. The pints of Guinness were decent enough, the Birra Moretti was crispy. Full post with pics available here

Back out onto the main street and across the road you will land at The Two Foxes Pub (Formerly O’Neills) It was O’neills when we stopped by. We had a quiet drink here watching the football before moving on. We dropped by again on a Friday and had a great night. Ann Kinsella was belting out some tunes and she had an absolute cracker of a voice. She was good craic as well. Solid night’s entertainment. They usually have some sort of live music on Friday – Sunday. Full post available to read here

Our next stop off is on George’s Street Lower. We have landed at The Lighthouse. The first time we dropped in here we got stuck into the burgers and we had no complaints. It was a grand feed. The burgers were top notch. Second time around it was an ice-cold Irish breakfast. We were waiting ages on it, asked the staff and a while later they dropped it up. Not sure what happened there, I think they may have forgotten about it. We wouldn’t be ones to whinge or complain but they seemed more put out than us 😆  not sure why.

Anyway on to more of the positive stuff. Entertainment wise there’s a quiz and bingo at the weekends while upstairs in the Top Deck room there are regular bands and dj nights. There is plenty happening here. Another great thing about this spot is they show F1. So if a bit of racing is your thing, you are laughing. They show all the races with split-screen action, themed quizzes around the bigger races and they also offer food and drink packages. There’s a Games Room upstairs where they have ping pong, pool, arcade games & board games.

Another nice feature is The Eatyard Shop at the front selling wine, craft beers and some grub. Full post with more pics available here

Before we head over to page two of this guide, we are going to take one more pub in. As we continue on down Georges Street Lower we arrive at Dunphy’s. It’s a nice old-fashioned, traditional pub located right beside the Bloomfield Shopping Centre which is also home to an IMC Cinema. So Dunphys is in a handy spot for a post or pre film pint or three.

Dunphy’s was recommended to us by a couple of people. It’s a quiet spot that dishes up a nice pint of Guinness. We popped in around dinner time at the weekend and we were greeted with a very mellow relaxed atmosphere. View our full post on Dunphy’s with extra pics here
