Ashbourne Pub Crawl: The best pubs and pints in Ashbourne
A quick We Love Pints guide to the best pubs and pints in Ashbourne 🍺 The great thing about Ashbourne is that there is a clutch of pubs all within a couple of minutes of each other on the main street. Perfect conditions for a little pub crawl. Whether you’re looking for a decent beer garden, craving a cold pint while watching the football, searching for the best Guinness in Ashbourne, or in need of stuffing your beak with some solid pub grub, we’ve got you covered. Scroll down and prepare for a pub-hopping, pint-necking extravaganza. What have we selected as our best pub in Ashbourne? 🍻🚀
🍺Fogarty’s Ashbourne: Fogarty’s Ashbourne is just a stone’s throw from the main street. I was on the Guinness on my stop off and had a burger that was absolutely massive, and tasty as well. On the food front, they do a carvery, steaks, and some other nice bits and pieces. Pints wise I stayed for a few here. The Guinness was ok. Didn’t blow the aul wig off but it done the job while I watched the match. There are plenty of comfy booths to sit yourself into and some benches outside if there’s a bit of sunshine and ye fancy tanning the nips. Looking for cocktails in Ashbourne? This seems to be the place. There are sections and rooms available for functions also. Full post here
🍺Ashbourne House Hotel: Our next stop in Ashbourne is the Ashbourne House Hotel. A short stroll up from Fogarty’s. The side entrance brings you to the lounge area and there is also a centre entrance into Ned Smyth’s Bar. They do a nice bit of grub in here and lash out some decent enough pints. The consistency on the pints is a tad erratic as you will see from the pics in the full post linked below. Guinness and different beers are usually the order of the day but we don’t mind an occasional Islands Edge. On our first visit it was Guinness for me and a bit of everything for the pints crew member I was with. Check out the green concoction. Known in Glasgow as a venom. The barman couldn’t make out what my mate was saying but as soon as he copped the word venom he was straight on it. Top stuff.
Around the pub itself, there are plenty of tvs on the go with racing and football on. There are always plenty of people floating about between hotel guests and local pint heads. If you are staying in the area The Ashbourne House Hotel is a 3 star hotel. 🍻 Full post here
🍺 Kellys Ashbourne: Kelly’s is on Main Street Ashbourne. It’s right beside the bus stop (Handy for post-work drinks) We have dropped in here quite a few times and the Guinness is always solid enough. If you aren’t a stout head, they have plenty of the usual beers on draught so you won’t be stuck. Feeling peckish – Get a Remo’s Pizza into your beak. You can order at the bar and Remo’s deliver from up the road. During the Summer months, they open the hatch out the back so you can order Pizza while you’re getting the pints down your neck out in the beer garden. The beer garden is a peach as well. Kelly’s is a solid stop off 🥃 Full post here
🍺The Fox’s Den: Next up we have The Fox’s Den which is right next to Kelly’s. This is a nice relaxed spot. The interior has a nice bit of red brick going on inside. There are regular trad sessions here. Keep an eye on their Facebook page. Always extra points for any pub that has a dartboard. The Fox’s Den has pool tables and a dart board as well as an outside heated area. On the day we dropped by the Guinness was good. No manky taste just a good solid pint of plain, so we won’t complain (Which we never do to be fair) Full post here
🍺Molly’s Ashbourne: Molly’s Ashbourne is a short Ric Flair strut up the road from The Fox’s Den on the main street. So similar to the others, it’s handy for San Remo chipper if you are looking for a bit of after-pub grub. It’s right beside Paddy Power if you fancy a bet as well as having an Indian restaurant next door. Nice pub this, the pints we had were good. There was two of us and we were both on the Guinness. Solid pints dished up. Good barman, good service, good pints.
Plenty of TV’s about the place and a nice little false fire effect under one of the screens. There’s some framed football and GAA jerseys on the ceiling and the toilets have some gas graphics on the walls (see pics) Plenty of live music at the weekends and solid bar service. Full post here
🍺The Stags Head Ashbourne: You will find The Stags Head on the main street. When we were in a regular mentioned to us that the pub was recently renovated (March 2022) The place looks well inside and they have a cracking beer garden out the back. There’s an Apache Pizza, La Bucca restaurant, Remos pizza & pasta and the San Remo chipper all in close proximity if you are feeling a tad peckish.
On the pints front, there was a couple of us on the Guinness and it was alright. One of the crew was on the beer and we struggled to move him🍻😄 Full post here
🍺Swans Curragha: Ok so some will say this isn’t Ashbourne. It’s close enough and they have Ashbourne down on their Google address🍻😄 We love this place. Great pints, great atmosphere, whopper beer gardens, great service, I could go on! It’s on our Beir Bua list which is a highly coveted award 😄 All jokes aside we just do this for the craic, we love pubs and pints and this is one of our favourite spots. Ashbourne what a town. Fills me full of nostalgia reading. I’m not long out of there but I do miss it. Wouldn’t consider swans Ashbourne but. I see a lot change in these pubs. I liked kellys would be my pick. Not a Guinness drinker I’m a beer man
