Pub 40 – The Forty Foot, Wetherspoons (Dun Laoghaire)
Pub #40 of our tour around every pub in Ireland. We are in the middle of our trek around Dun Laoghaire. Next up is The Forty Foot JD Wetherspoons which is in The Pavilion Centre, Marine Rd, Dún Laoghaire, Co. Dublin.
We all know the drill with Spoons, cheap gargle and grub, rough and ready with no music. It’s a real get in, get the pints and whatever else in and move on. We have been to a few of the Irish ones as well as the UK version. The one in Dun Laoghaire stands out with it’s cracking upper balcony looking out at the sea. Pretty cool looking ..an absolute belter of a view.
There is no Guinness in here but plenty of other options on tap and in bottles. They have some of the usuals like Heineken and Bud and so on as well as some craft beer options and Birra Moretti and Peroni in bottles. Fosters is dirt cheap and seems to be a popular tipple in most Wetherspoons we have popped into. There’s a decent enough selection of spirits and they are great value. There’s an abundance of choice whether you’re on the Gin, Rum, Vodka or Whiskey.
A double Jack Daniels and Pepsi is just €5.35 (April 2022 – Inflation may have put a few cents onto that.
I was on the stout so I gave the Beamish a whirl. It was ok, I’ve had worse in other Wetherspoons. I probably wouldn’t last more than 2 pints on it to be honest. If you are a hardcore Beamish head you definitely won’t be too keen I’d imagine. As I said though there is plenty to choose from here and all at decent prices.
Food wise there’s pizza, curries, sandwiches and more as well as the option of food and a pint thrown in for a reduced price. Cheap and cheerful.
The verdict on best pint and best pub in Dun Laoghaire is still to come.
